Doctoral Dissertation Research Grants
This grant is intended to provide an opportunity for outstanding young students and researchers who are seeking a doctoral degree from a Japanese university, to conduct doctoral dissertation research at a U.S. institution of higher learning.
Number of grants to be awarded: Approximately 20 grants, including the Graduate Study category.
Grant Commencement: Autumn quarter/semester 2010 or Winter/Spring 2011
Grant Period: 6 to 10 months
Eligibility/Requirements:
| a. | Current students of a Japanese Graduate School who have completed their first year of doctoral studies as of April 1, 2010. |
| b. | Individuals who have terminated their student status, but have been a graduate student of a Japanese graduate school beyond the required number of years for completing graduate coursework and have obtained the required credits as of March 31, 2010. |
| c. | Applicants below 40 years of age at the time of application preferred. |
| d. | Acceptance from a U.S. research facility must be obtained by May 1, 2010. |
* Individuals who have already obtained a doctoral degree or plan to obtain one by July1, 2010 are not eligible.
English Proficiency:
| a. | Minimum score of 80 (iBT), 213 (CBT) or 550 (paper-based) on TOEFL taken between June 2007 and May 2009 |
| b. | Depending on English ability, a candidate may be required to participate in a summer orientation. |
