2010 Application Procedure and Competition Schedule

The Applicants must submit the required documents in accordance with the schedule outlined below.

Those who pass documentary screening by specialists will be invited to Tokyo for an interview in English by a panel of Japanese and American experts. Based on the recommendations made by the selections panel, the Commission selects the candidates and submits their names for final approval to the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FSB) in the United States. Grants become effective when the candidate's affiliation at a university or institution in the U.S. has been confirmed.


February 2009 Competition begins.
April 2009 Registration begins.
May 31, 2009 Registration Deadline.
After preliminary review, applicants who meet basic requirements and whose proposals are relevant to the Commission's objectives will be sent application materials. Graduate Study and Doctoral Dissertation Research applicants whose TOEFL scores are below the required minimum will be dropped from further consideration.
July 31, 2009 Application Deadline.
September - October 2009 Documentary screening by specialists.
October - November 2009 Interviews in English at JUSEC office in Tokyo for those who are recommended by documentary screening.
December 2009 Notification of candidacy.
After July 2010 Departure for the U.S.
