Private Sector Support
In addition to funding from both governments, the Japanese Fulbright Program receives support from alumni volunteer activities, private sector companies, organizations and individuals, and is highly recognized among the world wide Fulbright program for such contributions and alumni activities. With such support, the Japan program is able to offer grants not only to students and scholars, but also to journalists, lawyers, business men, government personnel, and most recently, to recent graduates with a bachelors degree (Fulbright Fellows Program).
J. William Fulbright Centennial Fundraising Campaign
With a renewed commitment to ensure the continuation of the Fulbright Program between Japan and the U.S., the Japan-United States Educational Commission, The Japan GARIOA/Fulbright Alumni Associations, and the Japan-U.S. Educational Exchange Promotion Foundation have launched the J. William Fulbright Centennial Fundraising Campaign to seek additional private sector support. The campaign is scheduled to continue through March 2008 and seeks to raise in excess of two-hundred million yen to fund more than 40 Fulbright grants over the coming five-year period. Hyphenated grants-established through support at the level of five million yen per year, ideally for a multiple-year commitment-will enable foundation or corporate donors to enjoy a range of benefits, including the public association of their name with that of the globally-recognized and respected Fulbright Program. Individual donations with a wide range of amount for the Program are also gratefully accepted. Donations in amount of more than five thousand yen per year are applicable for income tax deductions.

Annual Japan-U.S. Fulbright Charity Golf Tournament
As one of its fundraising activities, the Alumni Association annually hosts a Charity Golf tournament in Japan. Through corporate and individual participation, the tournament raises enough funds in a day to provide close to two grants for Americans each year.
